The Curriculum Committee: MEMBERS First, a word about the concept of a committee. We came up with this idea because it's hard to get things done in huge groups. It is more effective for a committed smaller group to come up with a plan, then put it before a larger group of voters. (See rules of order, right.)
This committe is composed of people who run the largest Eagle Claw schools and/or have been in businss successfully for over 10 years. That is (in alphabetical order): Benson, Cecil, Don, Ernie, Joel, Ken, Nick, Victor
MISSION You agreed to come up with a curriculum that would be used by all schools, clubs, and groups who want to be members of the Ying Jow Pai Association. This is in response to Sifu's request that everybody agree on what to teach.
QUESTIONS You have discussed or mentioned that you would like to look into: -What are the levels of instruction? -What forms go with each level? -How do locks get taught? At what levels? -Is sparring part of a curriculum? -What else is part of a curriculum? -Would you also like to include recommendations, in addition to requirements? For example, what are good basics? Good discretionary weapons forms, etc. -How does this apply to clubs and informal groups who are training? -What forms are discretionary? All of them? Identify all other questions.
PROCESS
END RESULT Come up with a program you can present to the Eagle Claw Council. We will use a system that allows for discussion followed by a yes or no vote. Naturally you will get Sifu's approval first.
SCHEDULE Can you present a draft of your recommended curriculum by the end of April? That's it for now!! CLICK HERE FOR YOUR EMAIL LIST |
Without creating too many rules, I'd like to offer some ground rules or "Rules of Order" as they're known. Email me if you disagree, otherwise let's agree on these: 1. If you are on a committe, you can talk to whoever you wish on your own or in a group. 2. But non-committee members can only give input. They are not involved in committee discussions or decisions. Again, they are input only. 3.ON A COMMITTEE ANYONE CAN REQUEST A MEMBERS-ONLY DISCUSSION, whch menas it is just you nine. 4. Any documents or messages that are for the committees' review MUST GO TO EVERYONE ON THE COMMITTEE. (So talk to whoever you want, but make it clear that only you nine are making the final recommendation. In the future, we will have a website where these discussions can be opened up to the general Association (if a committee wishes). 5. When you are done and agree on a recommendation, you will have a chance to present to the entire Eagle Claw council for discussion/voting. 5. Each Committee should have a "Chairman". That person can be on as many comittees as they wish, but that person can only "chair" one committee. That's it for now. Hope it doesn't seem to restrictive, but it will help get things done. |
STATUS: Right now, we agreed the first committee will be the Curriculum Committee. Click here: THE CURRICULUM COMMITTEE | |
